On this project for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources done by g2o, I was part of a UX team helping the agency to refresh its website and bring it onto a new platform adopted by the Ohio state government.

My role in the project was to work with the agency on content strategy and information architecture for the new site. The agency at the time had 12 separate websites — one for each division that fell under the ODNR umbrella. We had the mammoth task of bringing those together into one user-friendly site with a task-based information architecture.

The team conducted extensive user research that included surveys, interviews, and workshops to gather feedback and understanding of how employees used the site and how constituents needed to use it for tasks ranging from buying a fishing license to applying for oil and gas leases on public lands.

One key pain point was that users couldn’t do everything they needed in one place and they could only search one discrete site at a time, meaning they had to bounce back and forth between division websites to accomplish tasks.

I synthesized that research to arrive at an information architecture that could surface the most important “jobs to be done” and help constituents quickly get to where they needed to go.

I also planned the migration of over 5,000 pages of content and led the ODNR and g2o teams in migrating all of the content into the new site structure and platform.

Additionally, I trained the ODNR team how to author and publish in the new content platform.
